Serving families since 2006, Khalsa Gurmat Center brings together dedicated teachers, administrators, and families across the Seattle region. Our institution began with a belief that our community must come together to nurture every child and help them lead an inspired life. That vision depends on families, teachers, and administrators working together to foster learning and growth.

Khalsa Gurmat Center thrives because of the generosity and support of parents, teachers, and other donors. Families support the center for its vision, integrity, and belief in working for the good of all humanity (Sarbat Da Bhalla). Here, children develop a spirit of community service, a love of learning, and the confidence to pursue their dreams.

Khalsa Gurmat Center Now Uses 100% Clean Energy

Rooted in the Sikh principle of Sarbat da Bhala (the well-being of all), Khalsa Gurmat Center now runs entirely on clean, renewable solar energy. This milestone was led by our student-driven KGC Green Team and made possible through partnerships with Puget Sound Energy (PSE) and A&R Solar.

From a facility-wide solar installation to waste diversion at our largest gatherings and energy-efficiency upgrades throughout the building, our commitment to a greener future touches everything we do.

Report Hate. Get Support.

Sikhs lobbying at the Washington State Capitol

Everyone deserves to live in a world without the fear of hate or discrimination. The WA Attorney General's Office has created a Hate Crimes and Bias Incidents Hotline to help victims get support and create documentation.

If you or someone you know experiences hate or bias, the hotline can help you understand your options and connect with support. Reports also help the state understand patterns of hate and bias in our communities.

The hotline currently serves King, Clark, and Spokane counties and is scheduled to expand statewide on January 1, 2027.

Without our past, we are adrift, without a compass to guide us. History provides the context for our present, and the inspiration for our future.

This project is dedicated to preserving the memory and historical integrity of these Gurdwaras and landmarks, recognizing their enduring significance despite the passage of time and the challenges they have faced

Our Mission

Khalsa Gurmat Center is an independent non-profit school offering a challenging and engaging curriculum in a uniquely personal environment. Our mission is to work with each student emphasizing respect, responsibility, and active community participation. Our focus is Education, Empowerment and Civic Engagement for kids and community members. The core regular student program includes Gurmat, Gurmukhi assigned by level, and one student-selected elective. Optional Turban Tying and Self-Defense classes follow the regular program.

Our aim is to:
  • Develop leaders among our students
  • Forge a bond between our students and Sikh history and philosophy
  • Create a spirit of public service among our students and our community
  • Promote a spirit of entrepreneurship amongst our students and the community
  • Inspire our students to strive towards higher education in reputable universities

Our Programs

At the Khalsa Gurmat Center, we design our programs around three core objectives: Educate, Empower, and Engage. Our mission is to collaborate with every child and parent, fostering respect, responsibility, and active community participation.


Enrichment Courses

The regular student program includes Gurmat, Gurmukhi assigned by level, and one elective selected by the student. Current elective choices are PE, Life Skills, Dilruba, Kirtan, Tabla, and Mathematics. See the Curriculum page for current program information.

Career Planning Workshops

We collaborate with other nonprofits to offer educational workshops for people advancing their academic pursuits. We also invite accomplished professionals to inspire our community to explore diverse career paths.

Free Legal Clinics and Health Fairs

We organize legal clinics in partnership with SABAW to provide free legal aid to the general public and senior citizens. We also invite health care professionals and other nonprofits with expertise in medical insurance and community health care needs.

Civic and Community Engagement

We believe an engaged community requires everyone to participate in local, state, and federal civic processes. To that end, we have organized voter registration campaigns and fostered informed discussions on issues affecting the community.

Golden Agers

Golden Agers is a youth-led KGC program created for older adults and grandparents in the Sikh community. The program provides opportunities for participants to meet regularly, build friendships, stay connected with the community, and take part in social, educational, and recreational activities at KGC.

5K Run

KGC hosts an annual 5K run that brings together students, families, and members of the broader KGC community. The event encourages health and wellness while giving participants of different ages an opportunity to spend time together and strengthen connections within the community.

Sarbat Conference

Sarbat is an AI and impact conference associated with KGC that brings together professionals, entrepreneurs, students, and community members to explore emerging ideas and their broader impact. The conference creates opportunities for learning, discussion, and connection across technology, business, and community. Visit the official Sarbat Conference website for current details.

Camp Chardi Kala

Camp Chardi Kala is a multi-day daytime summer camp for youth, with no overnight stay. Through lessons, group activities, and recreation, children learn about Sikh history and values, build friendships with other youth, and develop a stronger connection with the Sikh community in an engaging and welcoming environment.

Class Schedule

Every Sunday, September through June
9:00 a.m.: Drop-off and morning snacks
9:15 to 10:15 a.m.: Assembly
10:15 to 11:15 a.m.: Gurmat
11:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.: Electives
12:15 to 1:15 p.m.: Gurmukhi
1:15 p.m.: Guru Ka Langar
1:30 to 2:30 p.m.: Turban Tying and Self-Defense Class

Turban Tying and Self-Defense are optional after-program classes, separate from electives. Students not taking these classes leave after Langar.
